Wool:
Carpets,Kilims and Spumaks are made using % 100 wool as a material and the using one kind of material is very lasting.You can not see the cotton with the old rugs before about 80 years old.Because, The cotton was used as a material by 1930 at the rugs.The wool comes from sheep. The cleaning and raking are made.Later, They are made strings using special/traditional tools like KIRMAN or ÇIKRIK. And then they passed for the dyeing work.The cleaning of the wool is made several times during all wool work. The original handmade rugs are dyed with vegetable paints. The vertical strings which uses as base from the top to the bottom of the loom are made hard. The horizontal strings which uses as base from the left to the right side of the loom are made softer than verticals.The best quality wool is been always on the top side of the rugs. There are also the Chemical paints. But the vegetable paints are always the best quality.The reason of making the the rugs as best quality if you dye the rugs using vegetable paints is made it antique in the future and it gets bright.
Silk:
As we know, silk comes from 'caterpillars turn into a cocoon' and it is heated with hot water about 60 C.The silk is been in attached its each strings.It gets soft then separated easily.It comes out between 450 and 900 meter strings which is net from one of the best cocoon.They don't use vegetable paints in silk. Because it doesn't accept it.If somebody says it don't believe :).The silk seems very bright and it comes from itself, it doesn't come from the paints.After they wove the silk, when you see it you will realize it one side dark and another one bright.If you see the silk rugs please check it out, if you look at it from one side you will see dark and opposite side it would be bright color.It is really fantastic and showy.
Cotton/Silk:
The Cotton is not used on the top side of any kind of rugs.Maybe, % 2 sometimes is used.It is usually used on the base of the rugs as vertical or horizontal or both.
